A.R.S. Pacific West Area |
The Pacific West Area is the largest and most diverse of the eight Areas in the Agricultural Research Service. There are 360 scientist positions in the Pacific West Area, and a total workforce of about 1,500 employees.
Nationwide, the Agricultural Research Service has 46 research units in 20 locations in eight states.
Research in the Pacific West Area, which includes the P.G.E.C. is conducted in 18 of the 19 A.R.S. National Programs and addresses all five research priorities: Climate Change, Food Safety, Children’s Nutrition / Health, Global Food Security and Bioenergy. |
Western Regional Resource Center |
The Western Regional Research Center conducts mission-oriented research to:
- Enhance healthfulness of foods by creating crop plants and food products that promote health, and by developing systems and methods that ensure the safety of the food supply.
- Develop new food and industrial products using biotechnology to develop improved, tailored agricultural crops and bioengineering to create new products from agricultural crops and processing coproducts.
- Protect and enhance the quality of the environment by developing ecologically sound methods for pest control and environmentally sound systems for efficient food and industrial processes.
The results of these research efforts are implemented through the effective transfer of new and innovative technologies by integrating technology transfer into program and project design and developing partnerships with private and public sector clients. |
A.R.S. National Program |
A.R.S. research is organized into national programs that bring coordination, communication and empowerment to 800 research projects carried out by A.R.S. The national programs focus on the relevance, impact and quality of A.R.S. research. |
